Joe Biden Claims FDR went on T.V. to tell the people...

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,"

The only problem with this is that FDR was not the President at the time of the stock market crash of October 1929 and the television wasn’t introduced to the public until a decade later at the 1939 World’s Fair…

This guy could be “Just one heartbeat away from the Presidency” but the question is whether or not he would know it at the time or if he will be more interested as to what is on the “boob-tube” instead…

"Way to go, Joe"...

"Surprised"?...

.

"For years, liberal Democrats in Congress and some Republicans pushed for banks and other institutions to make home loans to unqualified borrowers, and suddenly we find many of these people cannot repay their loans."
"The reaction from members of Congress, like the "surprised" Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is to demand investigation of "greedy bankers," while ignoring the fact that it was her left-wing colleagues who created the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) that required the banks to lend to people who were poor credit risks in the name of "housing rights." A Chicago "public interest" lawyer named Barack Obama was active in this movement."

Richard W. Rahn makes some great points in his commentary which many in the media and "LeftSide" blogs seem to leave out...

"Most members of Congress seemed surprised that voters think the huge campaign contributions many of them received from Fannie and Freddie might have something to do with the now all too apparent lack of congressional oversight of the two mortgage giants. The endlessly surprised Mrs. Pelosi ranted against the "privatization of profits and the socialization of costs" in Fannie and Freddie. She must have forgotten that Fannie and Freddie was created and overseen by Congress, and staffed by political appointees (former Fannie CEO Franklin Raines was Bill Clinton's budget chief), and had an implicit (and now explicit) guarantee from the federal government."

"FOAMHENGE"...

.

Several weeks back I was on my way to Buena Vista to drop off another Jim Gilmore "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" drill rig at a location in the center of town...

South of Lexington we came upon a "Medieval Days" celebration being held at the "FoamHenge" location alongside the road. I have passed this location numerous times and stopped once to look around. On this day we had the opportunity to walk around and look at the work done by Artist Mark Cline who is also responsible for the elelphant used by the Rockbridge Republican Committee in the well known Buena Vista Labor Day Parade...

Pelosi's Late Night Congressional Solution to the Energy Crisis...

.

Democratic Party "Speaker of the House" Nancy Pelosi and her gang pushed through a worthless 290 page energy bill that did not allow any amendments and was voted on late at night.

Nancy's BIG solution to the energy crisis and cutting edge plan to reduce dependency on foreign oil?...

It can be found on page 255

Section 827 of the bill defines the "Transportation Fringe Benefit to Bicycle Commuters."

It says: "The term 'qualified bicycle commuting reimbursement' means, with respect to any calendar year, any employer reimbursement during the 15-month period beginning with the first day of such calendar year for reasonable expenses incurred by the employee during such calendar year for the purchase of a bicycle and bicycle improvements, repair and storage, if such bicycle is regularly used for travel between the employee's residence and place of employment."
Bottom line: Employers could count as a deductible business expense a tax-free $20 monthly reimbursement to workers who bike to work.

Another commendable "Alternative Energy" solution coming from our "Democrat" friends but this is what they came up with? What are the logistics of this plan and how will Nancy validate or monitor bicycle use? Will there be Federal government agency created to enforce\monitor\validate this program? Do I still get credit during the winter months while commuting in snow, rain, sleet? Will this new "Alternative Solution" eliminate the foreign oil now being purchased from foreign OPEC countries and which ones?

The "Change" they are looking for...

.

The "Agent for Change", Obama, had his wife stop by Charlottesville yesterday to talk about the changes they hope to make if elected. Charlottesville once again showed it's "Tolerance" with the following example as noted in the NewsVirginian article...

"U.Va. student John Sweeney, 21, however, tried to attend Obama’s rally with a John McCain bumper sticker attached to his polo shirt. Obama’s campaign staffers made him remove it, saying signs were not permitted. “Apparently a bumper sticker constitutes a sign. And they said there are no signs allowed at the event,” he said. “Frankly, I wanted to see if they would let me in with a McCain sticker on my shirt. I got my answer.” During Obama’s speech, it should be noted, there were dozens of pro-Obama signs throughout the crowd, including ones that said “Virginia Needs Obama,” “Si Se Puede,” “Smart Moms for Obama” and big white letters that spelled out “CHANGE.”

Hold on there one moment, Madame Speaker...

Speaker Pelosi came back from the FIVE WEEK vacation and rammed a bogus energy plan through the House that now has many from the "LeftSide" pointing at the Republican members and accusing them of not supporting the drilling bill they asked for...
Fortunately Investors Business Daily has provide the facts that many in the mainstream media and "LeftSide" bloggers have been ignoring... Oct. 1 can be the American Energy Freedom Day.

"On that first day of the new fiscal year, the congressional prohibitions expire on offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, as well as for the oil shale available in Western states."

"The Democratic-controlled, do-nothing Congress for once is frantic to do something before that deadline hits. In a big election year, with summer gas prices exceeding $4 a gallon, voters won't swallow an extension of the ban. So Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday had the House of Representatives pass legislation she unveiled less than 24 hours earlier, with Republicans blocked from offering amendments."

"But Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the Republicans' Study Committee chairman, correctly called the bill "a sham" with no provision addressing the dire need for construction of new oil refineries, "no clean coal, no energy exploration in arctic Alaska, no nuclear energy and — if you read it — no exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf for energy in their bill."

"Over in the Senate, Republican Saxby Chambliss of Georgia has been leading a bipartisan group that, like Pelosi, would keep almost all known oil reserves off limits. Meantime, the oil and gas industry would be slapped with $30 billion in new taxes for alternative fuels and vehicles — costs sure to be passed on to consumers. Some 20 senators have signed on."

"It all makes for a great opportunity. Republicans could take that Oct. 1 deadline and act like a winning football team — by running out the clock. President Bush and Sen. McCain could lead the chorus counting the days to American Energy Freedom Day."

What the Big Virginia Dem Blog is not mentioning...

One of the Big "Democratic" Party leaning blogs here in Virginia is reporting that the Republicans in the House failed to support a energy bill that includes increased drilling for oil...

But yet they leave out many other aspects of the bill ...

"The measure wouldn't give states a share of the royalties for offshore drilling, which Republicans argue will leave states little incentive to agree to oil exploration off their coasts. "

"House Republicans said the bill is nothing more than a charade because it would keep off-limits nearly 90 percent of offshore oil because it lies within 50 miles of land."

"To pay for the new tax incentives, the bill rolls back $18 million in tax breaks for the five largest oil companies. It also requires energy companies to pay billions of dollars in additional royalties from oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in the late 1990s. "

Another Voting bloc?...

.

The day it was announced that John McCain selected Sarah Palin as the GOP Vice-President candidate I received numerous phone calls from co-workers and college friends from places I once lived. From New Jersey I got a call claiming that half of the shop up there was voting for the “Hot Librarian” and when I said that I thought most up in NJ were Democrats I was told “That too will change”…

From deep south Florida I heard that it was good somebody who actually knows Alaska and the potential ANWR yields is now on a ticket. That and the Salmon fishing up there is outstanding…

Here in Virginia I have had many co-workers coming to me asking about the V.P. candidate and interest in the November election has increased several fold. Requests for signs, bumper stickers, voting registration forms, and directions to local headquarters, has exploded…

The initial interest in the V.P. candidate and the Presidential ticket has grown from a simple phrase like the one on the above sign to one of a renewed interest in the Conservative\Republican party and November election ticket. Now that many have had the opportunity to hear Palin during her acceptance speech as well as John McCain’s speech at the RNC convention, a new, and very strong groundswell of GOP interest has arrived…

Republican Party headquarters in Harrisonburg\Rockingham county, Waynesboro, and candidates campaign offices have told me of incredible interest in this election and campaign materials have been blowing out the doors followed up with requests for more.

But what is most interesting and welcomed to see is that the “vast majority” of this new interest in the campaigns are focused on the issues and the abilities of the Republican candidates. Yes I believe many were still going to vote for McCain simply because of the caliper of the opposing team and their lack of experience and knowledge, but now many have new interest in the game. I now get daily calls from people who are now involved in the party and look forward to the debates and opportunity to talk issues.

The Republican ticket now has a Strong Conservative with family values that they can believe in for it’s the same thing that they believe in and live each day…

Still makes me wonder what the “Hillary” sign would have said…

Congressman Bob Goodlatte 09\11\2001...

.

A few years back Delegate Ben Cline told me about when he was in Washington with the Congressman on 9/11 and how the Congressman refused to leave his congressional office on that day...

Republican Delegate Ben Cline described how he was with Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte (V.A.) in his office in Washington D.C. on September 11th. Cline was working as the Chief of Staff for the Congressman and they first heard of the attacks in New York City and then could see the smoke from the Pentagon attack from the window of the Congressman’s office. Congressman Goodlatte immediately sent his entire staff home and away from the Congressional office. After the staff had left the office Cline asked the Congressman if he was leaving and was told that he was staying because the people needed to know that the government was intact and operating. Congressman Goodlatte and Cline both stayed in his congressional office taking phone calls from his constituents assuring them that the government was in control. Delegate Cline also described the reception that he got from a Officer when he returned to the office building from lunch. Cline stated that he was stopped by the Officer who advised him that nobody was allowed back into the building and that everyone had to leave. Cline requested the Officer to call the Congressman’s office so that the Officer could talk to Congressman Goodlatte. Cline described the look of surprise on the officers face when Congressman Goodlatte answered the phone and then when the Officer advised Congressman Goodlatte that he should not be in the building and had to leave. Delegate Cline also described the change on the face of the Officer once the Congressman started to talk to him on the phone and the Officer replied numerous times "Yes Sir, Yes Sir, Yes Sir": The Officer then looked at Cline and said "Go ahead in" and allowed Cline back into the Congressional office building .
