200,000+ Gun-nuts, 7 days, $70 million to economy, and no shootings, mass killings, riots, ?......

Last month I made the pilgrimage like many up to Harrisburg PA for the Great American Outdoor Show and was impressed by the size of this show with 650,000 sq\ft of floor space….

It took me three hours of driving up 81 to find traffic actually backed up onto route 81 and still 2 miles from the Farm Show complex. After sitting in traffic for 1-1/2 hours I came up to several FULL parking lots and instructions to go to the Harrisburg mall to be bussed over to the show. Another hour delay…

Once inside we found lines everywhere in the numerous show buildings, food lines, bathrooms, and most every booth of the 1,000+ vendors that were there. Interesting thing was with all of these people from all over the United States, even some of them obnoxious Northerners, it was a day of bumping into each other and waiting on everything...

During the 4 hours that I was at that show I must have bumped into 20-30 strangers where everybody said “excuse me” or even stood aside allowing other people to go buy. Stood in a food line for 15 minutes waiting to get a $7 crab cake that confirmed I was still hungry and looking for more and finding another long line. There were crowds at every function and at most every booth and display and it was easy to get separated from friends and fellow “Gun-nuts”. In fact if you wanted to go to another exhibition hall you basically had to merge into the river flow of people and catch the current to the location you were looking for...

Now take into consideration that the majority of the 200,000+ attendees to a show like this that focuses on guns, hunting, Safari hunting packages, shooting sports, fishing, archery, etc. are considered “Gun-Nuts” to many of our Liberal friends and the mainstream media. In fact Ted Nugent was there meeting and talking with hundreds of people there…

Now with Pennsylvania being a State that allows concealed carry of guns by permit holders, along with honoring surrounding States permits such as my State Virginia permit, there were plenty of armed people during that week. With that not one reported mass shooting, single shooting, riot, fight, carnage, rape, disturbance, or even flipping over of cars in the parking lot like after many NBA Championship games...

Surely, and please don't call me Shirley, with such a concentration of these gun-nuts and pro 2nd amendment radicals there must have been something to repeat over & over on the Liberal mainstream media outlets? I Could not find a single report of any incident.   Did I miss something?.....

Obama... TOP Gun Salesman of the Year...

The Daily News Record had a interesting editorial regarding the increase in gun sales since President Obama took office. In fact sales increased in the months after the November election and before he took office in January...
.
Fortunately this increase in gun sales has also proven what many have known all along and once again the data backs it up...
.
Increased gun ownership by law abiding citizens RESULTS IN A DECREASE OF CRIME...

Gun sales started rising in October 2008, Mr. Lott reports, but in November, 2008, sales shot up 450,000 above November 2007. By October, 2009, “about 2.5 million more Americans bought guns than during the previous year.

Concomitantly, Mr. Lott writes, the murder rate dropped 7.4 percent, the largest decrease since 1999. That year, Clinton factotum Elena Kagan was pushing tighter gun control following the Columbine school massacre. But “Americans were worried that more gun bans were coming,” Mr. Lott writes. “[G]un sales soared.”

Writing in Human Events, U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., reports that FBI data from 2007 showed lower rates of homicide (30 percent less), robbery (46 percent less) and aggravated assault (12 percent less) in states with liberal carry laws versus those without them. Overall, the violent crime rate in right-to-carry states is 22 percent lower.

After Florida enacted its concealed carry law in 1986, the violent crime rate dropped 32 percent and the murder rate dropped 58 percent. Another interesting datum: 40 percent of felons interviewed for one research project said that fear of an armed victim deterred their crimes.

Also take note that those cities with the most restrictive gun laws such as Washington DC, Detroit, New York, etc. also have the higher murder and violent crime rates.....

Citizens protecting themselves everyday...

Each month I receive my NRA magazine and if you have never read an issue you will find that there is a page dedicated to news reports of private citizens using their legal weapons to defend themselves and others in the course of their lives...

.

This months issue has an story about an incident that happened in Richmond VA back in July that was reported by the Richmond Times but it appears my local news services decided not to report. The RTD reports that a armed criminal came into a grocery store to rob and found eight customers that he quickly rounded up. The criminal then shot the store owner twice before a private citizen with a concealed weapons permit, who probably thought the criminal would shoot more of them, produced his handgun and told the criminal to drop his weapon.

.

The criminal refused and the Concealed Weapons permit holder fired once and hit the criminal. He then subdued the criminal, took possession of his weapon and waited for arrival of the police. Several of the others in the group encouraged the permit holder to shoot the criminal again but the permit holder refused...

.

Many out there feel that private citizens should not be able to own or carry legal and valid weapons in their defense and the defense of those around them. The above criminal already shot one defenseless person and would probably continue more. Not reported but chances are that the criminal possessed his weapon illegally and without valid permit. He in fact used the weapon in a crime and more anti-gun laws would also be ignored by this and other criminals. These laws only prevent law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves...

.

Many on the "Left" call examples like this "fear mongering" when reported. It is a useful method so that they and their candidates can ignore the 2nd amendment issue and acknowledge CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAWS and more strict laws will also be ignored...

.
Let's say you are grocer #4 in the above scenario. You would ask the citizen with the valid concealed weapons permit and weapon:
.
1. "Thanks, but I will stand over here while you shoot that thing"...
.
2. "As I read it, the 2nd amendment does not give you a right to own that thing, you are the problem here"...
.
3. "Excuse me, can I borrow that for a moment"...
.
4. "Let's negotiate, Let's talk with the robber, maybe he is just having a bad day"...
.
5. "Will that 45 be rather loud"...

Check here to see how your Virginia State Candidates rate as far as protecting your 2nd amendment right to defend yourself...

Add One More Thing to the Signs...

Pretty much had most of the larger signs up and ready for the last 3-week stretch into election day and then the campaign man was nice enough to give me a box of "additions" to go with the Sportsman signs...
.
Bob McDonnell picked up the NRA endorsement and with that came the decal to make it obvious to which Candidate supports the 2nd amendment and will protect the citizens right to bear arms and self protection...

Suzanne is also a strong supporter and very active coordinator for the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" campaign which is headed up by Newt Gingrich and "American Solutions"...

Suzanne advises that "The Tea Party was in Front Royal with about 450 attending from Luray toWinchester to Shenandoah County and Warren County."

Also at the Staunton 4th of July parade was the "Shenandoah Valley Tea Party" group that provided an impressive parade float supported by many volunteers walking the route...

"Hite Hollow" Augusta Springs Fire...

.

I was headed out to the shooting range in Augusta Springs located in the area "Hite Hollow" at which time we came along units from the Dept of Forestry and local fire fighting units headed the same way...

Upon arrival to the "Rifle Range" we found the above units fighting a brush fire on the hill behind the range. Estimated the wind at 5 to 10 knts at times resulting in several flare-ups and increased activity. Rifle and Pistol ranges were closed due to the activity of fighting the fire but we were allowed to watch the fire fighting efforts...

After stopping in Craigsville to observe some of the local color there we noted the use of at least one helicoptor dropping water on the active "Hot-Spots"...

Shad Planking 2009 ~Virginian's for Energy Independence~

. The 2009 "Planking of the Shad" event held in Wakefield, VA by the Wakefield Ruritan Club was once again a political season highlight for those of us involved in the political environment and campaigns. This being evident with the thousands of campaign signs on the route leading up to a small clearing in the woods where the Wakefield Ruritan Club has been hosting this event for 60+ years...

Numerous other then campaign booths were set up and attracted the attention and support from those walking the grounds. Virginia Citizens Defense League is a very impressive group working to protect citizens rights to defend themselves...

Campaign for Liberty group...

NRA association..

Virginia Energy Independence Alliance...

With this came the opportunity for our small group of Virginia buisnessmen and citizens to set up a display and information booth to encourage discussion regarding the numerous energy sources available here in Virginia. With no association or link to the Virginia Energy Independence Alliance (photo above) we had interesting conversations with this group and encourage all to visit their website...

Along with several visual displays we had numerous "info planks" with energy facts and sources for visitors to review and discuss. These planks provided information on the many energy sources that need to be implemented and reduce our dependence on foreign sources. Energy sources including: Windpower, Offshore Oil and Natural Gas, Solar, Tidal hydro electric, Coal, Cellulose, Nuclear, Hydro-electric, and several other forms brought up during discussions including Algae oil production...

As with any gathering of people involved in politics the conversations and debates can and will cover wide ranges of topics. This included the benefits and risks associated to each form of energy sources... With offshore drilling being a hot topic in the news and the campaigns, the debate of benefits and (environmental) costs was a frequent topic. We have a proven source of oil and natural gas off the shores of Virginia and with that many have concerns of environmental impacts but we also have a proven track record of this energy source...
