Teach a man to fish....

Jakes Downtown Waynesboro...

The NewsLeader did a nice front page article and review of the new "Jakes" Bar & Grill that has recently opened in downtown Waynesboro...

http://www.newsleader.com/article/20131229/NEWS01/312300002/Fallen-soldier-s-mom-starts-new-chapter-Jake-s

I have been there several times before the grand opening and since opening and it has a great format and adds another reason to come "Downtown" which has been missing for years now.

The South River Fly Shop is just around the corner on Main Street and is another great addition to the downtown effort...

"Bubba" & the Incumbency tactic....

Had the opportunity to travel down to Rockbridge County to help a friend on election day with his quest to bring representation to common sense citizens of Kerrs Creek district...

Chris had been working the local neighborhoods for months walking from door to door talking with homeowners. This is something the incumbent was not worried about and obviously counting on his incumbency and lack of interest in local politics by many citizens. But it was encouraging to hear from Chris how many of these same people responded positively to his neighborhood visits and discussion of local issue. Once again it shows that once issues are presented with solid facts and discussion people are truly interested in their environment...

While working with Chris at several polling places we spoke to almost every person arriving to cast their vote and the vast majority discussed the issues and appreciated Chris bringing these issues up. This compared to the incumbent "Rusty" who basically stood there with his hands in his pockets, did not present any campaign handouts, and really only spoke to those he knew by face. Obviously Rusty was relying on his name recognition and "Bubba" status to win him re-election...

This was obvious when after Chris spent some time talking with a voter who stated that he had just paid a substantial tax bill on his dump truck used in his occupation and the effect on his business. The amount was substantial and the voter expressed how this substantial tax made it harder for the operation to run in the "black" and kept the voter from expanding his business. The voter then moved on to Rusty who basically told him that's the way things are and to get over it...

Chris came very close to bringing true Conservative representation to his district on his first attempt and would have been a important & beneficial addition to the local Rockbridge government . Rockbridge is and has been headed down the debt road with overspending and unwise choices like the closing of the Effinger school. One can only hope that with time and the exposure to the issues that Chris provided take hold and the citizens of Kerr's Creek district keep the pressure and issues on "Bubba" to let him know that they are watching & expecting better actions in the future...

Good job Chris....

Democrats at the BV Labor Day Parade... "Nothing but Negative"........

This years Buena Vista Labor Day parade was interesting for it was the first parade in many years that I did not arrive in the "Dark of morning" to set up signs or put together a campaign\issue float. It was nice to arrive half hour before start, park towards the end, and walk back towards the parade starting point. Needless to say you see and hear many interesting things along a parade route before a parade when people are claiming their "Spots"...

Parade seemed smaller this year along with less attendance along the route. It was also strange that the political floats and campaigners were towards the front of the parade.

As I walked the pre-parade route, there was this annoying little sound in the area. You know like the sound of the tiny mosquito in your ear when you are trying to have a good time at a picnic or maybe even a parade. Turns out it was a small airplane towing a anti-Republican party banner. Not very effective for the plane had to maintain attitude over a population center like BV and the banner was small and many people along the parade route strained to read the message...

It turns out this was just the beginning of the "Negative-Attack-mantra" brought to this annual event by the Democrat party and it's candidates, campaign staffs, and the usual "Mindless-Boob-Progressive-College-Kids" following along looking for "Change" when they never understood what they want "Change" from in the first place....

Several times I came along Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe running along the parade route from side to side shaking hands and introducing himself. It is common during the BV parade for candidates to walk the route and shake as many hands as possible but McAuliffe was by himself. He may have had a staffer at times with him or a annoying Progressive swinging a campaign sign at other times, but he had no real support staff. The "Progresso-mob" of college kids just walked down the middle of the street laughing, talking amongst themselves, and managing a "Terry-Terry-Terry" every so often...

In contrast the Republican candidates had their staffs and volunteers working the crowds and up front with the parade watchers of the day. Staffers with follow up info, flyers, and direct personal contact with potential voters in contrast to the ever present "Negative" message coming from the "Dem-Crew"...

Another obvious thing was that the Republican candidates were genuinely enjoying themselves and the contact with the crowd. Many times during the parade they had to catch-up with the parade for they were stopped for photos & questions by parade watchers.

The GOP team had the obvious message advantage in personal contact with the crowd and this was seen all along the parade route again in contrast with the Democratic party machine. I recall one time when I was standing along the parade route near numerous elderly GOP supporters and candidate McAuliffe came by to shake several hands. The crowd was cordial but not Dem-supportive and as McAuliffe returned to the center of the street and his above mentioned college supporters he said something sarcastic and got his crowd to laugh aloud. Not a classy move from a guy claiming to want to represent all of the citizens of Virginia if elected...

Without a doubt the GOP team was having the better time and advantage with the parade watchers. Lt. Governor candidate E.W. Jackson was up and down both sides of the streets introducing and supporting his message...

Smaller than in the past but yet another good parade...

And then there was the Speech & Message part of the day...

The BV parade always ends at the park & pavilion where the candidates take the stage to present their message to the potential voters. Here once again the message coming from the Democratic party candidates was very much negative and attacking the Republican candidates & GOP...

I did find it interesting when Democratic candidate McAuliffe got up there and said he would look out for the teachers and improve the education system. He was quick to point out (Red-meat) that Virginia teachers ranked 50th in the States for their pay level and if elected he would change that. It was even more interesting when the Libertarian candidate later said Yes the Virginia teacher might be 50th on the pay scale but Virginia pays a impressive amount per pupil and much of the money goes towards education administration costs and not the teachers...  No "Terry-Terry-Terry" coming from the crowd at this time....

Here is the speech & message from E.W. Jackson who is running for Lt. Governor of Virginia....

Strong message and puts into words what many citizens are looking for in our government and from our "Leaders".....

The Evolution of the American Left...

Numerous times over the last six years I have heard and\or been involved in debates at work and on-line that end with the claim of "racism" if you do not go along with or disagree with the Obama administration...

"EXTREME" looks to be the chosen "Attack word" of the Virginia Democrats (again)....

"Extreme" was the word I saw and heard repeated several times by the local Shenandoah Valley Democrat protesters outside of the Weyers cave airport while the newly nominated Republican Party candidates were talking inside the terminal. Wisely this bunch were not allowed into the terminal during the event for sure this select group with known ring leader "Elizabeth" ,would have made a spectacle and shown their "arse" as they have in the past at events like this. Instead they set up in the parking lot, congregated in a henpack, and strutted with their protest signs pointed towards Virginia citizens entering the event.  Nothing new at all and in fact the scenario and dialogue is familiar and tired but I did notice each sign, hand-made & same handwriting on all, highlighted the word "Extreme" in description of "Cuucinelli, Jackson, and Obenshein"...

One word simple, "talking point", "mantra" "attack point", descriptive are nothing new for this bunch and in the past it has always been fun to question these guys on their "Chosen" word or phrase only to get a blank stare or rambling after they realize that there is little or no content to their attack tactic. I believe they focused on this word back during the last governors race when they protested, ranted, raved, spewed, bellowed, during Cuccinellie's run for Attorney General and have regurgitated it once again in fear of a True Conservatives trouncing the Democrat challengers once again...

The "Progressives" were allowed to set up their all alike signage, written in same handwriting, in the front parking area. There they confronted exiting citizens which resulted in one of the "Progressives" espousing verbally her "First amendment Right" of free speech which in fact nobody was denying her of but in her mind I believe she feared nobody was paying attention to her and her pre-made sign that she was holding and probably never read herself. I have seen several members of this "Progressive" group in the past at political and social events and have learned that many of them are angry, hateful, and just not nice people towards those who do not support or believe in their "Progressive" efforts. I have seen them dampen and discourage festive moods at County fairs, holiday parades, and other social events with their display of slogans, actions, and signage...

"EXTREME" is a interesting choice of "Attack" descriptive for the only thing "Extreme" of this ticket is how far they are from the current Obama administration and his attempts to "Move-Forward" this country towards their ideas of Liberal Utopia. In fact I found it interesting and thoughtful during Lt. Governor candidate Jackson's speech where he described how he has been told he will be made out as a "Extreme" right-wing Republican and attacked for it at every opportunity by progressives like this group in the parking lot. Jackson said that if his beliefs in conservatism, limited government, and a non intrusive government makes him "extreme", he welcomes the association with people such as Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Reagan...

"EXTREME" as a talking point or attack-word?  I was not sure until I arrived to work afterwards and described the Fly-In event I just witnessed at the airport to my Liberal-Progressive-Democrat friend and political nemesis who as soon as I started to describe the event the first word out of his mouth was "EXTREME"...

I guess we now what to expect out of these guys for the next six plus months......

Historical Bottle Diggers of Virginia Show ~2013~

The Dive Team attended and had a display table at the recent bottle show of the Historical Bottle Diggers of Virginia in Harrisonburg, Virginia...

Our display table had a collection including artifacts from numerous shipwrecks along the New Jersey shore, river and tidal zones, and of course bottles found while diving. Special emphasis showed how antique bottles are found by way of "Underwater Bottle Digging" and the condition they are found in. Several visitors to the table stated that they found this tactic very interesting and one person contrasted it to his tactic of "Digging bottles with his debit card" on e-bay...

No snow, No worries....

It is always fun to watch how people respond to major snowstorms that they have had days to prepare for but yet still act like it came out of no where..
.
The most fun has to be watching the hourly updates from the local bloggers with their "BREAKING NEWS" updates and "FIRST PHOTOS" of how much snow is now on their decks, as compared to just 30 minutes ago...(What did I tell you)...
.
These bloggers must learn it from the Mainstream Media people who have to be standing in the middle of a snowstorm, or Hurricane if that is the case, to convince us that there really is a storm out there...
.
So instead of showing you how much snow is now on top of my car or mailbox, here is a photo of a Atlantic Sailfish and a link to the upcoming Key West Sailfish Championship in April 2013...

No Snow, No Worries.......
