Staunton VA 4th of July Parade ~2012~

Nice sunny day for a 4th of July Parade in Staunton VA and had a good turnout even with it being the middle of the week...

Military personnel got standing ovations all along the parade route as well as several people stepping up to shake their hands and show appreciation for their service to our country...

.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte walking the parade route in Staunton VA...
.

I walked the parade route several times looking for the Democratic Party parade float and did not see anyone marching in support of the party or it's candidates. I also could not find or identify any campaign workers for any of the Democratic party candidates running this November. I eventually found the Staunton\Augusta County Democratic Party table along the parade route with a surprising small amount of campaign literature and support items (ugly Tim Kaine signs). This in stark contrast to the 2008 election cycle where the DNC and Obama sent  considerable amounts of money and support into the Shenandoah Valley...
.
This also being in stark contrast to the representation provided by the Shenandoah Valley Tea Party who had a impressive showing by citizens who organized themselves and supported themselves along with help from other citizens in the valley.

SWAC-Ambush at the Golden Corral...

Did Congressmen Bob Goodlatte know what he was getting into when he accepted the invitation to the "SWAC-Breakfast" this past Saturday at the Golden Corral?...

The "SWAC-Breakfast" is a new  political forum that is made up of several local political "activist" and made up primarily of a former Republican committee chairman, a Democrat committee chairman, and others who once were active in local party activities.

As reported by the faithful reporter from the NewsVirginian, Bob Stuart, he described the confrontation between the congressmen and his Republican primary challenger who was waiting for him at the SWAC-breakfast.

"She said that if Goodlatte was for decreased spending, she wanted to know why he voted for an increased debt ceiling and for federal health care as part of an omnibus spending bill. Kwiatkowski then pounded her fist on the table at the Golden Corral and said, “You need to cut spending! You need to cut spending!”

The organizers of the SWAC-Breakfast club have hosted a breakfast forum for the primary challenger, Kwiatkowski, in the past as well as a breakfast forum for the Democrtatic party challenger to Goodlatte as well....

Did the Congressmen walk into a local breakfast gathering to meet and talk with his local constituents or did he walk into a "ambush" set up and hosted by the "SWAC-Gang"?...

Goodlatte confronted by opponent at local political breakfast
By: Bob Stuart | News Virginian Published: April 29, 2012

Rep. Bob Goodlatte’s talk before the SWAC Political Breakfast on Saturday morning briefly turned into an impromptu discussion with his opponent in the June Republican primary, Karen Kwiatkowski. Kwiatkowski questioned the fiscal conservatism of the congressman, whose 6th District includes much of the Shenandoah Valley.

She said that if Goodlatte was for decreased spending, she wanted to know why he voted for an increased debt ceiling and for federal health care as part of an omnibus spending bill. Kwiatkowski then pounded her fist on the table at the Golden Corral and said, “You need to cut spending! You need to cut spending!”

Goodlatte, who introduced a balanced budget constitutional amendment last year that failed to pass the House, responded by saying that if “you balance the budget in one year, you never have to borrow more money. Each year the budget is not balanced, you will need to ask for more resources.”

When asked by another questioner why he would not debate Kwiatkowski, Goodlatte said he has chosen to conduct his re-election campaign by “reaching out to my constituents like today. I expect my opponents will do the same.”

Kwiatkowski said the lawmaker and his office have refused to honor debate requests. She described the incumbent as “weak and hypocritical.”

Goodlatte said he is running on his record of 20 years, and believes that if Republican Mitt Romney is elected president in November and the U.S. Senate becomes a majority Republican body, federal spending will be cut. For much of his talk Saturday, Goodlatte detailed what he described as the excesses of the Obama administration. He described the administration as the “worst in our nation’s history.” Goodlatte said that he considered then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama as the “most liberal and inexperienced person” ever to run for president when the Democrat campaigned four years ago, and that his hypothesis has proved true.

Goodlatte said that he is cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will overturn federal health-care reform legislation. He said Obama has done an “abysmal job on the economy, regulating sector after sector.” The overreach by Obama is at its worst on executive mandates regarding the Clean Water Act and the Environmental Protection Agency, the congressman said. Goodlatte said the EPA’s imposing of mandates onChesapeake Baywatershed states is wrong. “The federal government has the authority to set standards, but the states have the right to implement them,” he said. He said the EPA has failed to provide a cost-benefit analysis of what it is asking states to do with nutrient-pollution reduction in the bay.

One member of the audience, military veteran Andrea Jackson, wondered aloud why those in Congress are unable to work together in a more bipartisan way. She said she wished the “bickering” would stop inWashington.

Goodlatte pointed to a list of bills passed by the House and stalled in the Senate. “We would love to sit down with the Senate and work out our differences,” he said in response toJackson. Goodlatte called Saturday’s breakfast a good discussion of the issues, and then he left to attend a full day of activities in his district.

Candidate to challenge Congressmen Goodlatte....

Andy Schmookler has thrown his hat into the ring and if the 6th District Democratic party agrees he will be running against Congressmen Bob Goodlatte to represent the 6th district of Virginia....
.
Do not know this guy but from what I have seen in the papers and Internet over the last few days it appears he is no friend to the Republican party:

BASYE -- "The Republican Party is a destructive force the likes of which America has never seen, according to a local man who has announced his candidacy for Congress."
.

He has already come out with some of the classic Dem-Talk-Points, which I guess they believe if you repeat the claim 3 times fast it makes it the truth and all will believe it, this is one they have been using often:

“What we need to close the budget isn’t cutting off programs like Head Start or heating help for the elderly that Republicans are going after. We need to get the economy out of the hole,” Schmookler said.
.

Schmookler has come out with statements attacking both sides of the political spectrum in the 6th and with the political demographics it will be interesting to see the direction his campaign will take over the year or so....

Both major parties – Republican and Democrat – are part and parcel to the problem. The GOP, to Schmookler, is a “destructive force,” while “Democrats have let us down because they have been wimps in terms of standing up and defending.”

.

With Schmookler being new to the process he will have to tailor his campaign to gain the most votes in the end. As with several recently announced Candidates in the local area, it will be interesting to discover and watch the campaigns "Progress" and change as issues, interviews, debates, and history of the candidates becomes available to the voters....

Tax-cuts?... No worry, it's VACATION time!...

Congressman Bob Goodlatte released his weekly column and made some interesting points with data to back it up...

"Last week by a vote of 209-210, with Speaker Pelosi casting the deciding vote, House Democrats voted to adjourn Congress, sending Members home, without stopping a massive $3.9 trillion tax increase that will affect every American. By putting politics before the American people, the Majority in Congress has voted to keep the threat of looming tax increases and the cloud of uncertainty they have created hanging over our economy."

Now how many times recently have you heard President Obama and his "Congress Majority" claim that they are going to give the "middle class" a break by extending the Bush tax-cuts and only stick it to the "Rich" and anybody making over $250K ?...

So why did they go on "Vacation" without fulfilling this pledge?

They have the majority in both the House and the Senate so why did they not vote on the extension of taxcut for the middle class that they promised?

Many from the "Left" will claim that is was no use for they did not have the "Super Majority" to prevent a filibuster but why did they not take the vote and then go home to campaign on how the Republicans kept them from extending the taxcuts to the middle class?

.
The truth is they know the "Majority" of the people they are going home to face before the election next month do NOT want any of the taxcuts to expire and know of the damage to the economy if the Democrats get their wish...

"In just three months, the largest tax increase in history is set to take effect, imposing unprecedented tax increases on small businesses and their employees who are already struggling to make ends meet. With 94 percent of small businesses expecting to see their tax bills increase this spells more bad news for our struggling economy."
.
Many small businesses are those guys making over $250K and many of us work for those guys. They make over $250K and thus considered "Rich" by Obama & gang but that is gross amount before paying many bills, insurances, payrolls, equipment replacement, and the likes.
.
"More than 90 percent of all American employers are small businesses and they generate approximately 70 percent of the new jobs created in the United States each year. Small businesses are crucial to the American economy and account for a significant majority of new product ideas and innovation. Small business owners across the country want to invest in their firms and hire new workers, but instead they are bracing for costly new tax increases."

I have heard President Obama several times state that he has provided small business eight different taxcuts and relief since taking office but obviously these 8 taxcuts have NOT worked to encourage or give faith to the small businesses who fear a large tax increase in the near future....

.
"The difference between certainty and uncertainty for businesses is the difference between a thriving and stagnant economy. The first thing we must do is remove barriers to employment including the threat of higher taxes. It is common-sense that you should not raise costs and taxes on employers at a time when unemployment is so high."

Simple...

Something that many of us can understand but seems to elude our Congress and President. Or maybe they did not want to commit to a vote until after the election and they see what numbers they (Democrats) or if they even have a majority in either House and\or Senate....

Once again our "Politicians" will come home, promise us the world or whatever they have to get our vote, and point the fingers at the other guys which the President has become accustomed to calling "The Party of No"....

But the surprise will be that it is actually the "Party of Know" and it's not just the Republicans who are the party of "Know". Many of those who voted Obama into office have also become the party of "Know" and they see what he has done and desires to do to our country and economy...

Governor Bob McDonnell along the parade route was well welcomed by those that came to this annual event...

Delegate Ben Cline....

Congressman Bob Goodlatte spent much time along the parade route talking with constituents from the 6th district....

General George Washington (James Renwick Manship, Sr)

The best place to learn the truth of the First Navy Flag, the Evergreen Tree of Liberty Flag, the Washington Cruisers Flag with the motto "Appeal To Heaven" from John Locke that is a "Call to War".
The First Navy Flag is NOT the fictional flag of the "Snake Over Stripes"
"Retreating Rattler" with its plaintive plea (Please) "Don't Tread On Me" created from legends and lies,
and sadly, on United States Navy ships currently flies.
