Sure, yeah, I am the (a) Republican Candidate"... Wink~wink... Widespread?...

It seems that word is getting out around the county that several of the “Independent” candidates in the Augusta County Supervisor race are claiming to be “the” or “a” republican candidate when going from door to door or when soliciting campaign sign locations…
.
Reports are that several of those doing this quickly change to “a” republican candidate once questioned or challenged by those they are soliciting support from. But in fact they are not the Republican candidate and are actually misrepresenting themselves to garner potential votes.
.
It appears former Augusta Republican Committee chairman Kurt Michael has used this “tactic” several times already and more examples are coming out. If true, it then means that Kurt Michael is using his past tenure as chairman of the local Republican party as a campaign “tool” to solicit support in the present campaign for Supervisor of Wayne district, when in fact he is not the Republican candidate in the race. This “tactic” may work with the potential voter who knows little or nothing of Kurt Michael’s past history, or knowledge of the infamous past GOP mass meeting that turned ugly once Kurt Michael was voted out as the Chairman of the Augusta Republican Committee by the majority of republican voters present.
.
There are several reports of candidates misrepresenting themselves as the “True” Republican candidate when soliciting campaign sign locations in the county. Several of these candidates have been told to take down their signs once the landowner finds out the truth about the false claims and you can be sure that does not sit well in the business community. If you see a campaign sign that just does not look right in front of a business you know, ask that landowner if they know the true status of that candidacy… Word of mouth and friends talking does wonders!...
.
But with Augusta County’s history of voting 70%+ for Republican candidates in the past, it’s obvious that several of these “Independent” candidates, possibly even a former Democrat member, would seek support of the Republican “label” if it might help them in this election.
.
It is important to talk to your neighbors, the people you work with, and the people you socialize with to ensure that they get the real info regarding claims being made by some candidates who are seeking their support\votes when in fact they are misrepresenting themselves… Word of mouth and the truth works wonders when it gets out there!...

There is now a letter to the editor in the Staunton Newsleader from the Chairman of the Augusta County Republican Committee advising readers of this obvious problem with candidates claiming to be the Republican candidate when they are not......

Augusta County Republican Mass Meeting 2011...

The Augusta County Republican mass meeting went on last night without the "Disruptive Catalyst" that has haunted it in the past and the 202 registered voters chose Richard Homes as the Republican candidate for Augusta County Treasurer....

.

Augusta County Treasurer Richard Homes was nominated by the eligible voters at the mass meeting as the Augusta County Republican candidate for the upcoming election.

.

Jason Bibeau challenged Richard Homes for the Augusta County Treasurer Republican nomination and brought many people to the Augusta mass meeting along with several ideas to improve the position. Even after not winning the nomination, Bibeau called for and received party unity and support for the Republican candidate. I have known Jason for years while volunteering for local political events and even with being on "different sides of the fence" on some issues, Jason and I have always been able to have constructive and beneficial discussions. I applaud him for stepping up and bringing new ideas to the election process... Good job...

.

Jamie Radtke was also in attendance and spoke to the 225 people at the mass meeting during the election process. She did a great job and spoke with many Republicans concerning what is going on in D.C. at this time....

"No need, People want our signs"....

When I asked a volunteer supporting the Tony Wilt campaign for Delegate of the 26th District why I only saw numerous Kai Degner campaign signs in the medians of Rt. 33 and no Wilt signs he replied:

"No need to do anything like that, people want our signs for their yards and property, and in fact we had to order more yard signs!"...

Driving around Harrisonburg I saw numerous "Degner for Delegate" campaign signs in the center medians of Rt. 33 and many other public "Right-of-Ways" in the area...
.
Now this is nothing new and it has happened in the past but usual courtesy is for these campaign signs to "appear" in public areas 24 hours before the actual election day and removal within 24 hours after the election..
.
But more then 2 weeks before election day and in the center medians headed East towards the mountains and to great seasonal tourist coming into town?

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli requests data used for "Global Warming" claims...

Representative James Moran, Virginia-Democrat, recently criticized Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s request for the supporting data related to the research of climate scientist Michael Mann while at the University of Virginia.

Moran accuses the Attorney General of using his position to “Stifle academic freedom” with his request for the data Mann gathered while at UVA and now being used by the Environmental Protection Agency to potentially regulate greenhouse gasses. These regulations will cost both Virginia and the United States millions in lost industry and jobs…

Attorney General Cuccinelli is seeking the data from Mann’s research to see if it was flawed, manipulated, or misused before it was used by the EPA in developing their new regulations. This after it has been learned that vast amounts of data from other research institutes has been manipulated in a way to support the “Global Warming” theory and thus the EPA’s decision.

Now we have numerous academic groups and even the American Civil Liberties Union expressing their objection to the AG’s request.

The Attorney General has responded with:
"The use of manipulated data to apply for taxpayer-funded research grants in Virginia is potentially fraud. Given this, the only prudent thing to do was to look into it."

If Mann’s research and data is the product from tax funded research grants it should be available for public and peer group review, and if there is nothing to hide this should be a non-issue…
.
.
Awhile back I did a post about how there is such hunger for grants at colleges and how Research Grants has become BIG business...
.
In fact while attending a community College and studying Marine Biology as a past time, I was also working on a Sportfishing boat as a living and the Marine Biology Director suggested I take a grant to "Count Birds"...

Stopping Job Killing Energy Regulations and Taxes ~Congressman Bob Goodlatte~

Late last year the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took the first steps toward a national energy tax by writing anti-growth regulations that make carbon dioxide – something that is necessary to sustain life on earth – a regulated pollutant under the Clean Air Act. This backdoor attempt to institute a national energy tax will stifle economic growth and kill jobs, especially in the manufacturing, transportation, energy, and agricultural sectors. Now more than ever, with the national unemployment rate hovering around 10 percent and 15 million Americans looking for work, these harmful rules must be stopped.

The EPA’s regulations represent a clear and present danger to our economy and to all of our efforts to provide the conditions for job growth and prosperity. These new regulations will cost hundreds of billions of dollars to implement and would ultimately affect millions of small sources of emissions such as hotels, hospitals, churches, farms, office buildings, restaurants, and other small businesses. These rules will inject uncertainty into the economy, delay or halt new construction, and deter investment. Citing the negative impact to their states, these regulations are strongly opposed by several States' Governors, Attorneys General, environmental agencies, and agricultural agencies.

The unelected bureaucrats at the EPA should not be creating national energy policy for our country and so I have joined with Republicans and Democrats in both the House and Senate in supporting legislation which would prevent the implementation of these job-killing regulations posed by the EPA.

Instead of passing regulations which will simply raise energy costs and ship jobs overseas, our nation needs an "all of the above" solution to cleaning up the environment, lowering energy costs, and creating more American jobs. We need comprehensive energy legislation which reduces our dangerous dependence on foreign energy and puts millions of Americans to work. We must encourage innovation within the energy market to create the renewable fuel options and energy careers of tomorrow, promote greater conservation and efficiency by providing incentives for easing energy demand and creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment and increase the production of American energy by responsibly utilizing all available resources and technologies and streamlining burdensome regulations.

America's economy is intrinsically linked to the availability and affordability of energy. During this economic slow-down we should be adopting policies that seek to rebuild our economy and create more jobs; we need reliable and affordable energy supplies. Unfortunately, the new regulations the EPA is pushing would only further cripple our economy. Instead of government mandates and bureaucracy we should focus on policies that support technological advances and consumer choices. The bottom line is that we need policies which encourage investment in environmentally sound, cost-effective practices without stifling innovation and setting our economy further back

Obama threw out many dog bones...

President Obama threw out many bones to many different groups last night during his State of the Union speech...
.
Like many of the promises he made back during his campaign, he has not delivered or followed up on many of his "Hopes" and in fact has ignored many of his claims during the campaign...
.
So don't count on many of those promises made last night and enjoy your bone for now. But be sure to watch for somebody from Virginia who will be sure to hold the President on his stated claim to develop domestic energy sources offshore...
.
Meet Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and his response to the State of the Union speech found here...
