Confirm, Deny, Ignore...

CONFIRMED
One of Senator Jim Webb’s staff was stopped and arrested for bringing a loaded handgun, with additional ammunition clips, into a Senate office building. The staff member stated and advised the officers that the weapon belonged to Senator Jim Webb (D).

“A congressional official briefed on the incident said Webb gave the gun to Thompson when the assistant drove him to an airport earlier in the day. Thompson, upon entering the Senate building, forgot he was carrying the weapon”

DENY
Later on as the story evolved the Virginia Junior Senator Jim Webb (D) would not confirm that the loaded handgun that his “Staffer” was caught with was in fact his handgun. This after the staff member spent the night in a jail cell…

IGNORE
I read media coverage of this incident in many newspapers including: Washington Times, Washington Post, New York Times, New York Post, Baltimore Sun, Daily News Record, and multiple news media websites. This story and developments continued for many days and continues at this time. But I was not able to locate any information on this story, involving the Virginia Junior Senator Jim Webb, Democratic Party, anywhere in the Staunton NewsLeader.

Other local newspapers covered this incident and in fact the Daily News Record out of Harrisonburg had their story on the front page edition.

If anybody did see NewsLeader coverage about the Democratic Virginia Senator and his wayward Loaded Handgun, please forward it for it will be interesting to see how it was reported…

Rosie: "Dumb as a Box of Rocks"...

.

Rosie O’Donnell once again took her Liberal audience where they wanted to go with the following statement on the “View”:

HASSELBECK: "Do you believe that the government had anything to do with the attack of 9/11? Do you believe in a conspiracy in terms of the attack of 9/11?"

O’DONNELL: "No. But I do believe the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel. I do believe that it defies physics for the World Trade Center Tower Seven, building seven, which collapsed in on itself, it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved, World Trade Center Seven. World Trade Center one and Two got hit by plains. Seven, miraculously, for the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically impossible."

One of the first things I learned when I took “Design of Structural Steel” back in college was that steel begins to lose its structural integrity at 700f degrees. At 1100f degrees it will have lost 50%+ of it’s strength…

I was very impressed when I started research on this post to find that Popular Mechanics has already responded to Rosie’s ignorant comment on their website at: http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/911myths/4213805.html

Rosie even went on to claim “for the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically impossible.”

I will leave that one to you to think on…
I need to go do some research on exactly “How dumb a box of Rocks can be”?…

Will that "Smirk" cost her?...

.
Thomas Sowell has an outstanding article over on IBD and points out that Princess Pelosi can "Smirk" now but what will happen if things do not go her way over in Iraq.
"It has been painfully clear that Speaker Pelosi was serious only about scoring political points. Her big grin when she won a narrow vote for a nonbinding resolution was grotesque against the background of a life-and-death issue."

"You don't grin over a political ploy that you have pulled when men's lives are at stake."
If Nancy and her Democrats are so much against the war they need to stop hiding behind nonbinding resolutions and stand up there and sign their names to cutting off the money to the troops.
"But to do that would mean taking responsibility for the consequences — and those consequences would be disastrous and lasting. They probably would still be lasting when the 2008 elections come around."

"The Democrats cannot risk that. They have taken over Congress by a very clever and very disciplined strategy of constantly criticizing the Republicans, without taking the risk of presenting an alternative for whose results they can be held responsible."
Thomas Sowell is well known for his books and teachings on economics...
That will be another lesson for the "Princess" in the future...

"So that's why Jim Webb was packing Heat"...

.

Here is what Virginia Governor Tim Kaine (D) did yesterday to keep us safe...

Maybe thats why Senator Webb (D) does not feel "safe" in Virginia?

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BOLLING'S STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR KAINE'S VETO OF DEATH PENALTY LEGISLATION
March 26, 2007
Contact: Randy Marcus804-786-2078 or 804-814-7117(cell)randy.marcus@ltgov.virginia.gov

RICHMOND - Earlier today, Governor Tim Kaine announced that he had vetoed legislation to expand the death penalty in Virginia. In response to the Governor's announcement, Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling issued the following statement: "I am extremely disappointed in Governor Kaine's decision to veto legislation that would have expanded the death penalty to accomplices of capitol murder by repealing the so called triggerman rule, and to persons who kill witnesses under subpoena in a criminal trial. These bills, approved by bi-partisan majorities in the Senate and House of Delegates, are logical and appropriate extensions of the death penalty to a group of killers whose actions warrant the maximum punishment allowed by law."My support for this legislation arose out of conversations I had over the past year with law enforcement officials and Commonwealth's Attorneys who feel that these bills would be an important deterrent to gang related crimes that are increasing at a rapid rate in many parts of our state. Unfortunately, Governor Kaine missed an excellent opportunity to address gang violence and make Virginians safer. It is my hope that the members of the General Assembly will vote to override these vetoes when they return to Richmond on April 4th."

Sen. Jim Webb (D)... Capitol Building Hall Monitor...

.

"He (Webb) gave the weapon to Thompson, the official said, and asked him to take care of it. Thompson subsequently put the gun in a briefcase and returned to Capitol Hill where "he spaced, he literally forgot" that he had the gun, the official said."

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/2007/03/webb-aide-arrested-with-gun-at-senate.html

Handguns are illegal in Washington, D.C., but nearby Virginia allows residents to carry concealed handguns. Capitol Police rules allow members and their employees to bring a weapon onto Capitol grounds if it is unloaded and securely wrapped. In this case, it was neither.
Webb told The Richmond Times Dispatch in December that he considers himself a "strong Second Amendment person" but said he does not carry a gun to work.

"I don't carry personally regularly. I shoot regularly. I like to have the option to carry, which is why I keep the permit," he said. "I value the opportunity to be able to protect myself, depending on situations. But no, I don't walk around with a weapon on me all of the time," he told the newspaper.

Senator.

We all make mistakes but this reminds me of the Concealed Weapon Permit training where the holder is responsible for the condition, location, and security of the weapon at all times...

Word of advice. While patrolling the halls of Congress performing your Hall-monitor duties, if you come along former Representative Cynthia McKinney talking on a cell phone just let it go... It's not worth it....

"Don't forget the batteries"!!!...

.

"Environment: Feeling a bit smug about owning that hybrid? Better rein in that contempt for those who still drive primitive conventional cars. It seems that a Hummer is more ecologically friendly than a Prius."

Once again the IBD (Investor Business Daily) has some information that you just don’t see in the MSM (Mainstream Media) or a Al Gore cartoon and in fact it seems he forgot to mention this in his “Hollywood” appearance in front of Congress…

Turns out when you take everything into consideration those neat little Hybrid cars that you see zipping around town, with decals giving you a “Middle Green Finger”, are responsible for a considerable amount of pollution.

“The nickel for the Prius is mined in Sudbury, Ontario, and smelted at a plant nearby. Toyota buys 1,000 tons of nickel from the plant each year."

So far, so green? Maybe not. The landscape around the plant at the city's edge alarms environmentalists. Some eco-activists blame the bleak, lifeless countryside near the facility in part on its 1,250-foot smokestack that belches acid-rain-causing sulphur dioxide.”

Like when ordering out of the Sierra club magazine, “Don’t Forget the Shipping cost”

“But there's more. From the Sudbury plant, the smelted nickel is shipped to Europe, where it's refined in Wales. Next, it's sent to China, where it's manufactured in nickel foam. The nickel is then moved to Japan, where Prius batteries are made. But the long, fossil-fuel-burning journey doesn't end there.”

“After the batteries are placed in the Prius, some of the nickel is round-tripped back to North America while some is shipped to Europe in cars sold outside Japan.”

Now should I keep my truck that gets 22 mpg and has 250,000+ miles and still runs well, or should I go out and get a Prius to save the environment? Buy a Prius and take Ontario off the “Potential Vacation Visit” list?…

“Then there's the expected life span of the Prius: 100,000 miles, or a third of the Hummer's, says CNW. Toyota would have to go through the same 'build, sell, drive and dispose' process three times for three Priuses to provide the same amount of service provided by one H3”

Wiki-who-i-what-i-pedia???...

.

Brent Bozell has a great article over on Investor Business Daily about the free on-line “Encyclopedia” created, edited on-line, and referred to by many of the “Progressive” Left…

My first experience with “Wikipedia” was shortly after the first Senator George Allen \ Jim Webb debate that was held at the Homestead last year. During that debate Senator Allen brought up a Virginia State related issue concerning the Port and area around Craney Island. Jim Webb was caught off guard and did not know of any of the projects conducted there by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, it’s major fueling depot for the United States Navy, and critical habitat for birds such as pelicans, osprey, piping plover, and other endangered species.

Within days I found reference to Craney Island, and the use of it by Senator Allen to show how little Jim Webb knew of the State of Virginia which he now represents in Congress, on Wikipedia and linked to by many Liberal Bloggers.

The interesting thing was not the information concerning the actual Craney Island but the use of this issue in a debate. (The reference to the Allen\Webb debate has since been removed).

“Wikipedia is an "open-source" encyclopedia, a reference source anyone can create. The danger in this system becomes very obvious, very quickly.

Recently, the comedian and movie star Sinbad had to announce that he was not, in fact, dead of a heart attack at age 50, as his Wikipedia entry claimed. "Somebody vandalized the page," claimed Wikipedia spokeswoman Sandra Ordonez.”

So if you need a source to refer to why not go to one that can\will be written to fit the agenda?

“Not only can Wikipedia articles be written by anyone with Internet access; others can then edit that material by adding off-setting and consequently off-putting material whose purpose is to create intellectual mischief.”

But how can this be? It looks like an on-line encyclopedia. It has impressive graphics and many links. It uses such a “Progressive” format.

“You can add to that the problem with the credentials of its staff. One of its editors, named only "Essjay" online and described in his user profile "as a tenured professor of religion at a private university with expertise in canon law," was recently exposed as a 24-year-old college kid in Kentucky. He resigned in disgrace — even though Wikipedia tried to retain him, claiming he'd edited thousands of articles with flair.”

Want some more “Flair”? Check out the section on Jim Webb that Wikipedia maintains… Beware…

Middlebrook General Store...

.

Took a ride out into the country today and found myself in Middlebrook VA. and making a stop at The Middlebrook General Store for lunch...

Once inside I remembered why it is good to get away from the main town and to take the time to stop at smaller businesses and establishments... Best of all is the small sign board I found near the front window...

What to do with all that PORK ???...

.

The guys over at AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY FOUNDATION have some interesting comments regarding the "Pork-Laden" Virginia budget that Democratic Governor Tim Kaine must sign, reject, or alter and re-submit. "The governor does have line-item veto power and could strike the local projects from the budget, but that is unlikely."

It seems that the Senators\Delegates like to tack on extra-pork projects so that they can return to their districts and show their constituents what "Bacon" they brought back to them from Richmond...

"Governing well should not be about who can bring home the most bacon," said Whitney Duff, the Virginia director for Americans for Prosperity. "Virginia taxpayers work hard for their money and don't deserve to see their tax dollars going to fund pet projects to try and curry favor with voters."

"All session, we have witnessed the ongoing debates on transportation funding, and a number of lawmakers have expressed concerns about utilizing general fund dollars to fund much-needed congestion relief projects on our roadways," Duff said. "Those same lawmakers apparently have little problem requesting that hundreds of millions of those same general fund dollars be spent on their own little pet projects."
